Our Halloween...

I don't remember celebrating Halloween as a child at all. These days children in the uk seem to get very excited about Halloween (maybe it's the sweets?) and with any excuse to dress up we have gradually got into the 'spirit' of things. The girls really enjoyed making cards and decorating cakes to take round to our friends for Friday night's festivities. We usually get together with friends for food and games. Apple bobbing being the funniest thing ever. ( i don't know if i cheated but i was lucky enough to find one with a stalk this year!).

It has been very chilly here this week and we even had a light dusting of snow... in October.
Baking and soup making has been my reaction to this... and wearing lots of layers. I am now also wearing bed socks at night (for those of you who are interested in an update of my chilly feet)... my mum has knitted me a pale blue pair (very pretty) from an original 1940's pattern that was passed down from my grandma. I am sure my grandma would be pleased to know that my feet are now toasty.

I hope those of you who have been on half term have survived and had a great time. All back to normal routines for us again. I have some stock to make this week for the Vintage and Handmade Fair as time is whizzing by and it's less than 3 weeks away. I will also be adding a few more items for sale to the website which is overdue an update.
Have a Happy Week.

I'm a big fan of socks for bedtime as I too suffer from cold feet :-(

Glad you had a good Halloween - we didn't 'do' it when I was a child either, but the children do love it now.

Sounds like you had a great time, I don't remember doing much for Halloween either when I was little. I think the lure of dressing up and eating sweets is too much for anyone!!! Definitely time to be making soup and wearing socks in bed, so cold at the moment!

We didn't celebrate halloween either when I was growing up. My parents were very much against the whole thing. It does seem to have become more popular though. Simon is very grumpy about it though and made sure we were out at the cinema on Friday to avoid all trick or treaters! I think he may have to become a little more understanding once we have children of our own.

Hello Ginny. Yes, it's beginning to be VERY cold here too. Not sure I like it but am trying to pretend! I'm always cold and think I will be knitting my own socks at this rate. Your Hallowe'en looked great fun xx

The halloween festivities sounded much fun indeed! As for the cold weather, tell me about it! It's been so cold here, the washing froze on the line. *sigh*

An elderly gentleman told me at the weekend that it'd be a white christmas this year (yay!) but that the snow would carry on into February (not so yay). Can you imagine it?

I've just started wearing my Totes socks again (double up as slippers) as I get chillblanes, but I feel I may need to invest in some proper slippers soon.

Talking of mothers knitting socks, mine has said that she's going to knit Mr. VP and I a pair each, and though she went for a modern pattern at the beginning, she hated it so much she's gone back to a pre-war pattern for hers. My only specification was "upto or over the knee please!". I can't wait!

The Halloween photos look like fun! I wish I was able to come to the Vintage and Handmade fair. Any chance of having one near London next time?!!!

I remember halloween as a brownie, mainly because of the dangling doughnuts you had to eat with your hands behind your back..

No halloween for us as kids either, although I do remember the odd bonfire night. Your halloween looked great fun, perfect for making those dressing-up costumes ... and you also had the odd black cat around too! x
