Bed socks?

a banal question, i know, but i was just wondering... do folk wear bed socks nowadays?
My granny used to knit us all wonderful bed socks. ..... I still suffer from cold feet.
Any bed sock stories?

How does a bedsock differ from an 'ordinary' sock? I've always worn socks in bed in the winter *blush* x

I love that you surface in the New Year with no preamble to your odd thought! It makes it a perfectly wonderful post...as though this may have been puzzling you for the whole of the festive season!

Mmm, bed socks. My sister bought me a pair of cashmere bed socks from The White Company a couple of years ago...they are divine and so soft and the most gorgeous pink colour...but I would like to meet the person able to wear them in bed...I would feel like I was being cooked! I wear them around the house on cold days though. Maybe with the advent of duvets and central heating there is less of a need for bedsocks? I think there may have been a similar decline in the sale of Long Johns...the last time I saw those was on John from The Waltons about 10 years ago (but weirdly he looked rather fetching in them I seem to remember, so maybe there's a need for a comeback?).

Happy New Year, Ginny...may 2008 bring you toasty toes and lots of other nice things! x

My lucky husband often has the pleasure of me in bed with socks on in the winter, just an ordinalry pair tho. I find if my feet are cold I feel cold all over!

Hello and Happy New Year to you and your family!! I hate being cold in bed and if it's really cold will put on a thick pair of socks to go to bed but have to take them off almost immediately as they always stop me from falling asleep (my daughter's the same)! Not sure if this helps answer the question though ...

Hi Ginny
I am seriously considering on how to knit a pair myself, I am like Kim. I start off wearing an ordinary pair then end up flicking them off just befor drifting into a slumber - A thin pair would be the answer, baggy but not so they fall off!? mmmmm, very sexy!!!!!!
Sorry the banner hasn't worked, I just had a go and it worked again for me, any probs go to here http://metaatem.net/words/
Have fun!

Bed socks indeed! Whats wrong with snuggling up to the old man and letting him warm your feet up?

I wear thick socks in bed sometimes, as we have no central heating, and have a hot water bottle too. If its really cold I wear a beanie as well! Right now I am wearing (as well as normal clothes) slippers, two jumpers, a cardi and said beanie. If you live in a cold house there's not much option!

Zoe wears socks - and would love bed socks - otherwise I am definately with Al on this one.

I have been known to wear socks in bed as my feet are always cold, especially now I'm single again!. But like Kim I usually end up flicking them off as my feet end up too hot to get to sleep. Would love some pretty cashmere socks just to wear around the house before bed with my PJs to get my feet nice and toasty before getting into bed.

I don't have specific bed socks, but will wear any pair of fluffy big socks that come to hand. I have lots of pairs so it's easy.

I can't let the husband warm my feet up or he'd want me to do the same for him and his feet are *much* colder than mine :)

Ginny, what a request! Yes, bed socks are a great idea, you could always knit some, no-one need know you are wearing them! My feet are always cold in bed, and I just wear a pair of my trainer socks. Whilst your at it, you could knit a matching bed jacket, how fetching is that! x

I don't know what the difference is between bed socks and regular socks - but I wear socks to bed during the winter! We turn the thermostat down at night, and my feet would freeze without them.

I sometimes resort to a pair of socks in deepest winter because if your feet are cold it takes ages to get to sleep. Oddly I rarely wear socks and just slip my barefeet into outdoor shoes even on the coldest of days.

I wear bedsock almost all year round.....they don't stay on all night, just until my feet are warm.
I dream the dream of cashmere but reality is Primark (2 pairs for £3) and they are better than M&S ones (£5 a pair)

My daughter loves bed socks but my husband does not. Does that help?
